Tungsten heads with a hole in the form of a narrow cut are designed for use with jig fly hooks. The appropriate shape of the hook and such a bead fit together perfectly, which affects the proper presentation of the fishing fly or spinning jig. During the retrieve, the fly is positioned with the tip upwards, thanks to which it is less likely to catch on the bottom of the fishing spot.

For this reason, slotted tungsten heads are most often used for euro nymph fishing and streamer patterns.
