Fly tying hackle pliers

Hackle pliers - one of the most important tools

Pliers are one of the most commonly used fly tying tools that have several applications. First of all, these are hackle pliers. Of course, their most important task is to hold the material tightly, i.e. the feather on the hackle of an fly.

However, feathers are not the only materials that we will wind with the help of this device, and these are: shaved quills from the peacock's eye, i.e. silk, tinsels, chenilles or brushes.

They also often save the fly being made when the tying thread breaks - just grab the broken thread with pliers, attach the right thread from the bobbin to the same place and continue tying it.

Most models of pliers are made using spring steel, and the appropriately shaped tips are designed to hold the material tightly.

How to improve fly tying pliers?

Sometimes it happens that our pliers do not hold the feather or other material well, which simply slips out during winding. In such a case, you should insert a thin tube, e.g. made of soft PVC, into one of the squeezing ends (our fishing shop has such tube fly materials).

After inserting such a tube, holding the feather stack during winding looks much better.
