Eyes - materials for tying streamer flies and other patterns
Various types of eyes are essential fly-tying materials that significantly increase the effectiveness of many streamer patterns. Fishing flies tied with eyes often appear more lifelike, and securely fixed eyes can also improve the overall durability of the fly.
Fly tying eyes generally fall into two main categories. The first are flat or 3D eyes, which are glued near the hook eye using a suitable adhesive. These are available in a range of colours and sizes — the larger sizes are particularly well-suited for big streamers or predator flies, such as those used for pike, and are highly recommended when tying such patterns.
The second category includes eyes that are tied onto the hook shank with tying thread. These can be either lightweight or weighted eyes, and are commonly used when tying saltwater fly patterns, as well as various trout streamers and other subsurface flies.
In addition to fly-tying eyes, our online tackle shop also offers a wide selection of brass and tungsten beads at excellent prices. So if you are tying nymphs, check out the other categories in our store.
