Smhaen Bobbin Holders are available in two series – Pro and Classic – and three sizes: Midge Blue, Regular Red and Large Green. Our range includes all six models, so you can choose the right length for your tying and decide whether you want adjustable thread tension.

Pro or Classic – which Smhaen Bobbin Holder should you choose?

Smhaen Bobbin Holder Pro features adjustable thread tension. It allows you to set the tension to suit the tying thread, fly pattern and your preferred tying style.

Smhaen Bobbin Holder Classic has a simpler and lighter construction without thread tension adjustment. It is a good choice if you prefer a traditional bobbin holder and do not need the additional tension control of the Pro series.

Ceramic tube for fine, strong and GSP threads

All models use a ceramic tube suitable for fine and strong tying threads, including GSP. The ceramic surface helps the thread run smoothly, making the bobbin holders suitable for a wide range of fly tying, from small nymphs and dry flies to streamers and large predator flies.

How to choose between Midge, Regular and Large

• Midge Blue – 8.7 cm: the shortest model, especially suitable for small flies such as micro nymphs and dry flies.
• Regular Red – 10 cm: the most versatile size for general fly tying and a wide range of fly patterns.
• Large Green – 11 cm: the longer model for larger hooks and large flies, especially pike flies, saltwater flies and large huchen flies.

Hand size can also influence comfort. Midge may suit smaller hands, Regular is the most versatile option, while the longer Large can feel more comfortable in larger hands.
