What tying thread to use on Squirmy Worm flies?
Due to the structure of the Spirit River material, which is extremely soft, flat threads of appropriate thickness should be used. The best threads for this worm fly patterns are UTC 140, in my opinion this is the best thickness that won't cut the squirmy wormies. A flat thread has this feature that before attaching the elastic, it can be slightly untwisted so that it adheres more widely to the hook shank.
In the event that we use a thin thread or waxed round thread, such as UNI, we can easily cut the Spirit River soft material or damage it slightly.
Another very important thing: you can't use varnishes and glues to strengthen knots or finish threads. They react with this silicone rubber and damaging the squirmy wormy fly.
