How do fly tying hair and fur differ?

Natural hair and fur differ in length, stiffness and the amount of underfur. This category includes deer and roe deer hair, hare, fox, Icelandic sheep and Nayat / Snowrunner, giving you materials for both small flies and large streamer patterns.

Which hair suits different types of flies?

Stiffer deer and roe deer hair is commonly used for dry flies and Muddler heads. Softer hair is better suited to streamer wings and patterns where natural movement in the water is important.

Fox hair is widely used in streamers as well as salmon and sea trout flies. Longer hair such as Nayat / Snowrunner is suited to larger streamers, pike flies and saltwater flies where a longer wing and natural movement are required.
