What are realistic fly tying materials used for?

These are ready-made insect parts: wings, bodies, tails and legs. They save time at the vice and help match the proportions and shape of the natural insect. They are used together with classic materials such as dubbing, feathers and fur.

Types of parts

• Mayfly wing and body sets – for dry flies imitating the mayfly (Ephemera danica).
• Detached mayfly bodies – lightweight abdomens in several colours and sizes.
• Stonefly parts – thorax with legs and abdomen for realistic nymphs.
• Mayfly nymph legs – rubber legs that give the nymph a natural look.
• Caddis wings – for adult caddis (sedge) imitations.

For stonefly and mayfly nymphs you will also need suitable nymph hooks.
